i need my car NOT to be written off

car value 1800, repairs costing 1300. car has low mileage (41k 1999 reg). i paid far too much for it a couple of months ago then had it serviced and had cam belt changed. i really wanted to sell it and then a bloomin great 4x4 drove into back of me. if its written off i wont be able to shift it even if i get repairs done. is there any way round this, other than not involving the insurance? this isnt an option as other party cant afford that much.

If you are not prepaired to get the insurance involved you will loose, Thats why you pay insurance, let them claim off the other party, if it was their fault you should have no need to worry.

When they write it off it becomes their property, but you can usually buy it back off of them and get the repairs done yourself. You shouldn't be out of pocket at the end of it all.

even if you buy it back and its on the register as cat a,b,or ,c, it will be on the v5,so you wont get as much for it as you think. if its been hit up the rear,it could be buckled, why would you want all that hassle.

If you think that their Insures are taking the P----- contact the Auto Insurance Onbustsman ( Not sure if i have spelt that right) Give them all your details that you spent on the car, look through Auto Trader for a car that matches your car & speck/Mileage what extras you have on, then take it from there.

If the car is deemed uneconomical to repair, then you'll get paid out for the cars value, end of story. You said you were going to sell it anyway.

Not at all suggesting anything underhand, but how's your neck after being rear-ended? If it's a bit stiff or you're suffering horribly from whiplash, you may well be able to discuss better terms with the other idiot's insurance company...

First of all contact your insurance company .They will offer you a paltry sum .Then object and they will still offer paltry sum. Then say you will accept if they throw in the car as well and get some quotes to get the repairs done. This can work as my bro-in-law did this a few weeks ago.
