renault megane 1.6 auto. w reg.

Just been on a 50 mile journey, car was perfect until 2 mile from home. I was in top gear on flat road when I felt a bump and the revs soared to 5k, Drove home very carefully, stopped engine. Restarted engine after 10 minutes and car is driving normally again. The increase in revs was because the auto. box had changed down .don't know why. The lever was in drive, it would change into 1 or 2 but no higher?
Please help.

Renault's are known for their robust auto boxes, I'd say get it to a auto specialist sooner rather than later. All you can do is check the fluid.

i had a tempremenatl auto gear box on renault fuego ,,,,, their virtually extint now ,,,,, maybe the "gearbox sensor/computer/brain 2 , has started to play up ?
