1.8l v reg, Petrol Engine. I don't drive like a speed freak, but on a full tank I'm getting about 300miles, is this good or bad? - If it's bad, what could be the problem? - It's only done 69k miles, and has a full Service History.

300 miles on a full tank, is this good or bad? depends how big the tank is.

It's a 55litre tank - which I thinks standard for Octavias.
55 Litres is about 12 gallons, so your mpg is 25. I'd think that was quite poor for a 1.8 what does the makers blurb say .
If you do a lot of stop start town driving rather than constant speed such as on a motorway that'll give you poor mpg.
it depends very much where you drive and how fast. I think the optimum is doing a steady 65 or thereabouts on a motorway. Doing 20 around town will give you a much higher consumption figure. 25mpg sounds a bit on the low side but not so low there's anything wrong unless you're on the M1 all the time.
i have a Civic Type R 2 litre and get 30mpg average so sounds like sumfink wrong like. Take to tgarage or sell it on claiming you get more mpg than you actually do.

Hope this helps
Quick Google reveals that:

Economy ~ manufacturers figures

Urban 26.2 mpg
Extra Urban 44.1 mpg
Combined 35.3 mpg

According to these owners you should be more towards the 35mpg mark.

Economy is not bad, I am returning 28mgp (and i ain't hanging around) if driven sensibley you'll easily be in the mid to high 30's.

I get mid 30's out of mine, probably averaging 34-35 mpg over 14500 miles, which isnt bad for a 200hp hatchback
