Help me folks.
Just bought a second hand Escort (N reg) and was only given 1 red key for it. Was informed yesterday that it's a master key and shouldn't be used frequently as after a certain amount of times will lock the immobiliser up.
Getting varying opinions on this issue so if anyone can give me a denfinate verdict on this I would be well grateful as I don't want to give the main dealer 120 to get 2 new keys made.
Thank you!!!

i have never heard the bit about it locking up the imobliser...but yu do realise that if you lose the master key that u are completly bugg3red when you need a replcement key so surely it wud make sence to get a spare key?
total rubbish
Absolute rubbish.

The red key is the master key, which contains the transponder, as does the normal 'black' key.

I believe that if you need to reprogram the immobiliser in any way, you would use the red master key and also the main 'stealership will use this to clone a replacement black key if required.

You would then use the master key to accept the black one .... confused yet ?!

Just carry on regardles and you will have no problems - only look after that key as you cannot replace a master key without much hassle.

Regards.
