Does anyone know what is involved in reprogramming a key fob. Is there special equipment needed or is it just a case of trying to input a code in some way to the car.

I am trying to get my dads spare key fob to work.

Any help appreciated.

Hi there.
Can you tell us the model and year of the Rover, and i'll find out for you.

Usually with Rovers the procedure is as follows.

Unlock the car with the key, hold the remote close to the car and (depending on how old the car is) press the dimpled button or the button with padlock on four times in quick succession.

Should do the trick.

It's a Y Reg Rover 25. I tried the quick succession thing but it doesn't work. The factory alarm justs ends up going off and the fob does nothing. I've also tried taking battery out, draining the power from it then putting in a new battery.

There is alsways a possiblility that it is just broke but it looks in new condition compared to the one that works.

thanks

Open up the remote, remove the little battery, press and hold both buttons on the remote, count slowly to twenty, release buttons, back in with battery, close remote, stand next to car and press unlock button on and off untill car unlocks.
