When you sell a car at auction does the ownership transfer immediately? The buyer has 48 hours to pay in full so was wondering if the auction holds onto the V5 until the car is fully paid for. My road tax expires the next day and them Im going on holiday so I don't want to return to a fine on the doormat.

Thanks

it depends on who buys the car,if a dealer or trader buys it then the V5 is given to them straight away,if a member of the public buys it then the auction house send the V5 off to the DVLA with the buyers details on it,your best bet is to declare the car as SORN from the 1st of the month, then you are covered.
