does anyone know if my piaggio skipper 125 is resticted, and if so is it worth removing it for a bit more power, or just not worth the effort?

What speed will it do at the moment? If it is restricted it won't do much above 30mph.

Have you passed your test? If not de-restricting it will be illegal.
Tourman a 125 will do more than 30mph restricted!!! Probably mis-read the Q did you?!

Well tom what speed are you getting? We need a bit more info really to help you.

Perhaps you can tell me why scooters are restricted CHEATER?
Well Toureman, a 50cc scooter is restricted to enable a 16 year old to legally ride on the road, with 'L' plates and a CBT certificate. Therefore 50cc scooters are restricted to 50kmph (roughly 31mph). If you were above 16 you could obviously remove this restriction.

When you reach 17 (or of course you are any age above this) you can ride a motorcycle or scooter of upto 125cc but also with a power output not above 11kw. Therefore scooters are restricted to keep within these laws (unless of course it doesnt need restricting to keep within the law). A restricted 125cc scooter will do about 60mph Toureman, that's the only reason I queried you. Now have I answered you question?

So back to the original question, you can do anything with your scooter as long as it doesn't exceed 11kw. I would advise not to however as it's a 2 stroke, they aren't the most reliable when you start tinkering around with the engine etc.
Haha Toureman I think I've found out why our answers are different...

tomoilson's title states 'moped' and his question says '125'!

tom just to add a 'moped' is a scooter/bike of 50cc. Anything above this is not a moped, it's simply a scooter or motorbike!

:-)
I had an '04 plate Skipper and I must admit they are a bit slow to take off. The're not restricted so the local dealer swapped the standard rollers for ones from an ET4,They were a bit lighter and made quite a bit of difference in acceleration but not top speed
