There is no age limit for children occupying the front passenger seat of a car. The law simply states that they must use an 'appropriate child restraint'. Once a child reaches a height of 135 cm (which is typically around the age of 9), an adult seat belt is considered to be an appropriate restraint. An adult seat belt is also considered to be an appropriate restraint for any child (irrespective of their height) who reaches the age of 12.

For children who are neither tall enough or old enough to use the adult seat belt, the appropriate type of restraint is determined by the child's weight:

It's usually necessary to disable any airbag, which protects a front seat passenger, when carrying a child who is not able to use the adult seat belt.
