where the speed limit is 20-30mph and the excess speed is 11-20mph the penalty in the magistates book is 4-5 points (or 42 days disqualification) and a category B fine.

Category A, B and C represent 50%, 100% and 150% of your weekly takehome pay after all employers deductions are taken into consideration.

This is a guidance not a tariff and so may vary from case to case.

if it helps I got a fixed penalty and 3 points for 49 in a 30 in 1997. They may well have got stricter. If they offer a fixed penalty, snap their arm off!
couple of months back, i got fined 60 and 3 points for doing 37 in a 30 zone, i guess it varies. Having said that, it was one of those 'lets hide the camera in a van and hope no-one notices til its too late scenarios'
(oooops gonna get a ********** for not taking it seriously enough hehehehehe)
