Are speed/safety cameras calibrated regulaely to ensure they are set right

How is it done and is it done by an independent body or by the police

Safety cameras are calibrated by independent bodies annually (yes really - once a year).

The Government uses the argument that the internal diagnostic self-check performed when the device is switched on is sufficient to guarantee accuracy of measurement.
