Interior light in car

Strange question but.................the interior light switch in my car was set to the 'on' position but the light wasn't actually on. Would the fact that it was in the on position be enough to drain the battery over a matter of days?

was it left on over night and is your battary not that good?

If the light wasn't on then no current was flowing through it so that's not the culprit - my money's on a fault in the alternator diode pack.

i missread the Q........

when you started the car (put battery on) did the light come on? or are you saying the light is not working anyway and was left in the "ON" position??

The light isn't actually on but the switch was in on position. The only time the light comes on is when it is switched to come on when doors are opened and then only when 1 back door is open, does not come on when front doors are open??

Had to replace old battery as it was dead, got new one, was ok for 10 days then that went flat too. Alternator has been checked & was told it was fine, the boot light is not on, no light in glove box anyway. So wondering what else could make a brand new battery go flat in a matter of days??
