95 Corsa losing power

My 95 corsa automatic petrol sometimes has no power when I start it up and try to pull away. The 's' on the dash that lights up to indicate it is in sport mode is flashing when this happens. The problem is usually rectified when I turn off the engine and then turn it on again, but sometimes this will happen more than once before it behaves. Occasionally it has also happened if I change the gear manually when the car is moving and I have to pull over, turn it off then start it again. Does anyone have any ideas?
