my 98 astra air con fan runs constantly and for about 1-2 mins after i turn the car off! it is causing the battery to run flat and as i live abroad the local mechanic is not that great. is it a good idea to simply disconnect the fan and not use the a/c?

If you don't use the a/c the seals will dry out and the unit will become useless. I don't see why a fan running for a few minutes would drain a decent battery - maybe you need a new one ?

thanks hommer but i do use the a/c sometimes and it works fine. the battery is fine but a few short journeys every day means the fan is taking its toll,i now take it a longer route wherever i go and it charges enough to start once.
your battery is faulty the reason your fan runs on is if the aircon has been on put if after a run its not charged enough to start again it sounds like to me a dodgy battery
