What exactly makes the red key special when you get it with a car, and why can it not just be used like a normal car key?

Sorry Mavis, it all started with the question.
So many people ask a complicated question about their car but make it un-answerable because they never give any details about their car, all cars are different.
If they give enough details I always try to give them a proper answer as you know.
A question like this one could be answered by a quick tele call to a garage that sells these cars, we still do not know what car the saint has, I sometimes give a silly answer to silly questions.

Toureman - that cracked me up!
I thought with most cars as long as you have one original key, you can code another for the electronic immobiliser.
Might just be cunning idea, so if (like me) your spare key is in a draw somewhere at home, along with a load of other things of dubious importance, you don't throw it away without trying to figure out what it is.... red mean stop!
