I've just had a brand new engine fitted to my VW Campervan. Should they have set the mileometer to zero?

no,its against the law, when you sell the car you point out it had a new engine at the milage, when it was changed
there is not much point in resetting the speedo to zero, you simply keep a record of when the engine was fitted. if you zero the speedo and try to sell the motor people will ask what is the genuine mileage. you could say that it was zeroed. you then must know what the genuine mileage is. you could fit a new speedo head which would be at zero. but you would also know what the genuine mileage is. it becomes illegal when you state that the mileage on the clock is genuine when in fact its not . so be careful and maybe honest to save yourself a lot of crap.
The recorded mileage is for the distance covered by the car, putting a new engine in the car does not change this.
hi,
your right guy's, but changing the subject slightly, ive seen cars in the past that have had a new speedo fitted,
the garage that fitted the new speedo put a sticker on the inside of the plastic lens of the speedo saying " new speedo fitted at ******** "
