Hi,
Can be one of a few things. most common is the throttle body that needs cleaning. (this is where the throttle cable goes to and has a large butterfly valve inside)
it could be a problem with the ECU - easiest way to check this is down the back of the gear box where speedo cable goes in, you will see some wires coming out, approx 8 inch long that go to a plug. unplug this and take the car for a drive and see what happens. ( this is what tells the ECU how fast the car is going)
if this doesnt solve it please feel free to email me back.
if you are near Huddersfield I can lend you various parts to try to find out what the problem is.
