Is it ok to park a car in the street outside my home and, when not in use, remove the tax disk for safe keeping and replacing it when it is in use. There have been thefts of tax disks in my area in recent months.
Thanks.

No - it is a legal requirement to have a valid tax disk on display if parked on a public highway.
A friend of mine had this problem with a motorbike. He photocopied (in colour) the disc several times and put a copy in the holder.

Each time it got stolen he replaced it with another copy, keeping the original in the house.

Not sure how legal this is, maybe someone could advise

Following on from what Billy said, if it's stored off-road without a tax disc, then it has to have a SORN declaration.

Chazza, your mate runs a serious risk of being charged with fraud and few other things, carrying on like that.

The fact is it is an offence for 'failing to display' regardless of whether you have a valid tax disc or not.
get an alarm or some form of deterant any flashing led, if not just get 6 months at a time,

Thankyou everyone for all your answers. JSLRD's is the safest bet...I think. I'll just get a six month disk next time. I had thought of removing the disk and leaving a note on the inside of the windscreen saying something like: "Tax disk removed for safe keeping".
