I forgot that the tax on my car is expires today because I'm not currently driving that car so I hadn't thought of it. I haven't got any of my documents with me today so I'm just wondering if I would get in trouble for doing it tomorrow instead?

You could do, it's all computerised now, however it's quite likely they've programmed in a little unofficial tolerance to avoid "boundry cases" so I reckon you'd have a good chance of being OK

You'll be fine - the DVLC computers are far too occupied tracking individuals who are just taking the proverbial by driving around for months on end with no tax.

By the time the computer gets to you - if indeed it ever does - you'll be taxed again, so panic not.

I was nearly two weeks late doing mine as i couldn't find my documents before going on holiday. I taxed it the day after i got back and didn't hear anything about it. Also my uncle forgot his for nearly a month and again, nothing. I would suggest to get it done pronto though as it's an 80 fine i beleive and not worth risking it.
My missus was 3 weeks late with hers. Nothing happenned. There is a point when it will though.

I've never had a problem when I've forgotten and gone a couple of days late.

i even missed my MOT this year - oops!!

That was 2 weeks late, but I think I only got the new electronic one this year.

If you have the reminder, a new style MOT and valid insurance then you can tax it online. I did it last Tuesday and the disc arrived on Thursday.

The Online is very impressive and you are covered from the moment you do it as they have to post it to you.

The only snag is if you pay by Credit Card they add a bit on for that otherwise excellent
