The only way is to hire one of those guys with the truck that can pick up the whole car like the ones the council's use. See Yellow pages, I'm sure it won't be too much if you just move it onto the road.

Thanks so much
get them to drop it on some double yellow lines where they're really keen on parking tickets too!

the vehicle is ILLEGALLY parked on your drive. Smash the window and move it. And like oither have said, park in on a red route, take the tax disc off so he gets done for failing to display too.

Alternatively, tell the police and they will move it, as a vehicle must not be blocking your drive incase of an emergency.

Your b/f sound like a right gimp. Personally I would use all force to get the car moved

Then after moving it, let all the tyres down.

yeah hes a real dick - thanks for all your ideas - will certainly be using some of them!!
let his tyres down? Use a very strongknife to puncture them.
automatic cars have a locking mechanism to stop the gears being selected without the key. so just lift the gaitor surrounding the gearstick. there should be a small peg locking the gearstick in place, push this back and hold while moving the gearstick in neutral, however the steering lock will still be on. ( make sure the handbrake is on otherwise car may roll when neutral selected)

Don't bother smashing the window, not only will you get in trouble with the law you will still not be able to move the car far as the steering lock will be on.

You could try contacting your council to say a car has been illegally left on your property and could they arrange to have it removed.

I also think you will be well within your rights to inform the owner (your ex) by letter posted by recorded mail that if the car is not removed within X amount of days you will arrange to have it removed by a scrap dealer. If you check you local paper you will find scrap dealers who offer to remove unwanted vehicles for free.... If the car is of any value I advise hand any money you receive to over to your ex (less a 'reasonable charge for the time it was left at your premises plus your time & any expenses such as telephone calls etc....if you so wish)

Firstly, and on a legal basis - DO NOT MOVE OR BREAK INTO IT. This is criminal damage, an you could also be prosecuted for something called 'Dishonest Borrowing' under the Theft Act 1968. The council do not have an interest as it is on provate property. The police will not move it as it is on private property - the requirement for emergency access is for pedestrians only, unless access is required for emergency service vehicles - is there an easement to somewhere through your driveway? Does the car have tax? If not, try informing DVLA - if ino SORN has been declared then they will send someone to recover it anyway.

Your best, and legal recourse would be to get a court order through the CC, which will cost 60 (as I remember)
Good luck, and I hope this helps.

Thanks erimus1 for your response - the car is open as he has lost the keys apparently - if i were to push the car off my drive onto the road would this been seen as breaking in?? or cause any legal problems for me??

If it's unlocked, just put a big notice in the window of it saying 'Hey (name) - You left your unlocked merc in my drive - move it'.

Give it 10 minutes.

You can't move it out of park without the keys unless it is a very old model, What I would do is buy or borrow, a cheapo small trolley jack (the type with small wheels on it) , jack up the back axle so the wheels are off the ground and then get some friends to help you push it into the road and leave it there.
pay sum young neds 50 quid to torch it. go to the council like the rest say or even the police! (thats if there interested in going to it, put sum donuts on it and the police will come out)
When an automatic is in Park it locks up the gearbox, so therefore it wont move! My advice is to either smash a window, slip it into Neutral and tow it to f*ck or get a trolley jack, jack the car up at the back (Mercs are Rear Wheel Drive) get the wheels off the ground, get a couple of friends and carefully push it onto the road, then report it as an abandoned vehicle!
Hi madein1978, there seems to be a bit of an echo here this evening!
Aye, I spotted that, sorry!
if you were to move it you may be breaking the law. but who's to say that the low life scumbags that rob people didn't try to nick it and it ended up in the road. honestly , officer, they are awful around here. i didn't see or hear a thing! i didn't even hear them when they used a scaffold pole to bust the steering lock! ?????
markja, if you use a trolley jack you can move a car around even with the wheels or the steering locked etc... it just takes a bit of time to do it thats all. you won't even need to get into the car to do it.
