Has anyone ever heard of a garage with any female employees or mechanics? Or a female friendly garage?

All garages are female friendly. The days of overt sexism are gone.

Alas I have never heard of a female mechanic apart from Angelina in Gone in 60 Seconds.

That is probably a good thing as the fairer sex does not have the basic understanding to use tools.

Don't get me wrong when it comes to cooking, ironing, child care and the odd token tag on at work do's and weddings, women have great purpose. But in a garage, it is fruitless.

Can you imagine their whingings at Pirelli Calenders or dirty tea mugs.? Christ.

I agree with Ward-Minter. Women do not have the intellectual capacity required for vehicle mechanics. Admittedly they are good at other things such as cooking, washing and cleaning but anything technical or complicated is a no no. However, if you are an attractive female, you will find most garages female friendly.

clearly you two have no real concept of women and are to narrow minded to see past the basics of women. I do happen to know of some female mechanics who can also deal with all factors do with men and garages better than yourselves.

Then why post the question. Odd, very odd.

Further, to tell you the truth, I fail to see even past the basics of women at times. Som, believe it or not, aren't very good cooks at all!

You will be lucky to find a garage that is people friendly, if you have to go to a garage, they instantly think they have you by the erm....(ill leave that one open) and charge you the earth !.
My daughter-in-law was the very first female MOT tester. Not a lot of people know that.
During World War Two, females carried out the same jobs as men and did it just as well. This shows they are just as able but why should they get their hands dirty when they are considered incapable?
How many women does it take to change a spark plug?

Thanku stanley man could you tell me if there is a database for mot testers anywhere its for my project would be a great help
There is a new data base but I doubt you can access it. I searched "first female MOT tester" and came up with a number of female mechanics stories.
There is a female mechanic on the docu-soap "the garage" which is on discovery on sky. The boss is a scottish male, and its based in spain i think... there is also a female mechanic on pimp my ride uk...
Glad to see that male chauvinism is still alive in UK judging by the 'male' answers on this post or maybe its cos they are scared that women would do them out of their jobs?????????? It would be nice to be treated as human beings when you go into a garage, especially when there are some women around who do know a thing or two about cars......yes my ex did have some use in his role as a mechanic anyhow ;-) I hate being looked upon as the little woman who doesnt know anything about cars except where to find the mirrors! Maybe its just UK that are antiquated in this way there are plenty of female mechanics on the continent but then again there are many in the British Army too!
first of all i think you are all narrow minded if you don't think a woman can do a "man's" job. I'm 21 and i'm a mechanic. I've worked in 2 different shops. A body shop and a GM dealership shop. I'm currently in school right now getting my AS degree for auto tech. I'm the only girl in my class and believe or not.. i'm in the top 5 of my class out of 30. I think thats pretty d*mn good. I love it when the guys come up to me..the only girl in the class.. and ask for help. It makes me feel great. I get so many looks, and get called bad names by a lot of people. but once they see what i can do they change their mind fast. I love a challenge. When someone says i cant' do it.... you better bet your a** i'm going to show them wrong. And i always do. Men just need to get use to it....women are going to be doing the same jobs as them. Hell there are thousands of men being nurses.... isn't that suppose to be a "woman's" job?? thought so! many men are staying home with the kids these days and fixing dinner, cleaning, and laundry.... didn't that used to be a "woman's" job too? yeah thought so!
