I have just had my ecu repaired and need to reset the unit. Dont want to spend any more money on it, is there a sure way of reseting without taking the car to the mechanics?

Disconnect the battery for a few minutes. But make sure you have the radio code to hand first !

It will run in 'limp-home' mode for a while and relearn as it's driven.

Tried disconnecting the battery for about 5 mins, but the warning light is still present. Are there any more suggestions?

Not really - when you said that you'd had the ECU repaired what do you mean exactly ?

Chipped or modified in some way ? What was wrong with it to start with ?

You can get decoders from some stores - I had one for a Calibra cost about 10. It can help in telling you what the fault code is. Other than that it's a Vauxhall dealer and they can hook it up to a TECH1 to read the ECU fault code in more detail. I don't think there is a self diagnostic mode on the Vauxhalls - my Volvo has a way of doing this and the Haynes manual has a list of fault codes.

Perhaps there's a forum or two on the Net that could help ?

took the car to vauxhal first, had a dianostics done, they said that the EGR vavle was getting no voltage through it, they tested the valve from an independant power source found it to be fine, then they checked the wiring loom no problems there so they said that the ecu was ****** and needed a new unit. Quoted 450 for unit fitting and reprogramming. so i took it to Lucas auto electrics for a second opinion. they found everything to be fine apart from a little water damage so they cleaned it up and tested it again, perfect. So no chips no mods just a small repair for less than 10% of vauxhalls quote.

Well done for not parting with your cash to Vauxhall !

I'd trust a Lucas agent if they told me my ECU had checked out OK. So other than ensuring all connections are OK - no bent pins etc., which I am sure you have done, I'd go back to the Lucas agent for advice.

I can't think of anything else. Hopefully someone will come up with something else on here.
