I got talking to my local Dealership today - he rang me and I explained everything to him about the handbrake.  He was actually annoyed at me saying that I should have gone to his dealership a lot in the past while but I did explain I have been to his dealership (a big one) about 6 times.  I did ask for his name twice or three times (he is the owner and I bought my last car from him) and his "workers" told me he wasn't there - think he was astounded and he couldn't believe it saying he is there pretty much there  6 days.  However after he listened he is going to try to get me a smaller car "somewhere" with the "button".  He did say it could be this week or next or within a month, but I will look for you.  I hope this arrangement happens quick.

I am telling you that whilst I am pulling the lever as far as I can like the best I  can - it does roll and I'm so nervous in it.  I will only be using it only for emergencies.  Thanks guys for listening.

Hope you get sorted soon, JJ.  It is possible to get your car adapted to button or other device to make using the handbrake easier (several options available to help disabled drivers) but they are not cheap.

This got me wondering if you are in receipt of any disability benefits that would entitle you to a Motability car or VAT exempt adaptions

Question Author

Bar.  My car couldn't be adapted to button cost thousands

When he finds you a car, JJ, tell us what he's charging you and we'll (or I will) have a look to see you're not being ripped off.

£400 - £500, usually

Where have you obtained that figure from, Barry?

Question Author

What for bar. Remember I will have to exchange my current car

I think he means to convert your handbrake to an electric one in your current car.

Looks like an option, JJ. Well done Baz.

Question Author

The mechanics said it would be too expensive. Had I thought 500 too 600 I would have paid

This is one of the options, it really is a straightforward job for most cars

Question Author

Gee thanks bar wish you have told sooner. I will contact Armagh tomorrow and see what they say

Jenny, are you in receipt of any of the benefits that entitles you to VAT free adaptions?

Question Author

What benefits.   Just get state pension

JJ, some people in receipt of state pension also get Disability Living Allowance or PIP

Do you have a private pension or ne from your work?

Question Author

Contacted mcelmeels.  Going to cost £1095. Then price of towing is £250.   Boy a lot of money

what about a 'normal' garage and not a disabled mobility specialist, also get your nephew to drive it there for you and slip him £50 cheaper than £250!

It doesn't have to be done at a specialist - is my understanding

Question Author

Yes have private work pension

Just a point but any modifications would have to be notified to your insurers, especially where brakes are concerned. They may want some sort of proof that it's been done by a reputable company.
