The town centre hotel yesterday provided a free full Christmas dinner for those that would be alone at Christmas and then an afternoon of entertainment. Lots of volunteers Food provided free by local tradespeople. Their food is always high quality. Just been looking through the photos and everyone looks so happy. So good that there are some lovely people in this world.

That's lovely MissT. Such a thoughtful thing for the town centre hotel to do for people alone at Christmastime. That has cheered me up somewhat, thanks.
There's a local cafe where I live who do the same thing. They invite all the over 75's who live alone, give them a superb dinner with wine and beer and a small gift each. Sadly, I'm too young to be invited lol. It is nice to know that there are people out there who care.

Fitdarren. The invitation was to all ages here, which was great. There were quite a few younger people. Loneliness can happen to anybody. And a lot of the volunteers too were lonely people. I would love to have been there to join in. No because I'm lonely, but just for the fun. And their food is amazing!
I agree loneliness affects all ages, but it's only a small cafe, so I suppose that's why the owner chose the elderly. I volunteered at the Sally Army one Christmas when I was at a low ebb and had a great day. I met some fabulous people, who I am still in touch with, and all the people eating the lovely dinner provided were so happy. I'm a regular supporter of the Sally Army now.

I support the Sally Army too. But I can only do it financially They do a good job. To be honest if I was fit I would prefer to volunteer at Chrstmas rather than do anything else and I'm sure too that I would enjoy it.
