clutch on automatic

my car is stalling when put in gear ok when ticking over it is a nissan primera automatic could this be a clutch problem it also has been converted to gas (lpg)the fitter in a gas conversion garage said the load on the engine was reading 50/60 load and should be 9/10 loading he likened it to a manual clutch being brought off the pedal to fast so it would stall every time tried to move it the other day it was ticking over ok but when I put in gear instantly stalled 8 times in number any ideas much appreciated tony mcscaff (Sat 19:41 24/Dec/05)

Question Author
I did not mean a clutch pedal but the mechanism of the automatic transmission,to add to the question thanks for info would like to see if anyone has any ideas on this!the
car is in the drive but I am working away at present till dec 30 my
wife wanted to move it off the drive and started the car it was
ticking over fine till she put it in gear (car automatic)when it
stalled immediately she did this a further 8 times and ok when ticking
over but stalling when put in gear the gas mechanic 5 weeks ago did a
test on my car and said it was at 50/60 load on the engine likening it
to taking your foot off the clutch too soon so stalling if it was a
manual clutch can this be a clutch problem any ideas out there thanks

Sounds like a BS answer from the gas conversion fitter to me, the auto gearbox will always load up and slow down the engine when drive or reverse is selected and if the system were still on petrol the engine management system will compensate by trying to increase the idle speed to actually keep it the same speed. The gas system obviously does not have this compensation, you should go back to them and state that the autogear box was perfect when on petrol (it was I suppose??) and that the system they have installed is not operating correctly and that you want it corrected.
