Hi, silly hubby made a mistake and put around 25 litres of petrol in his diesel car. He thinks he had around 5 litres diesel in tank, so all got emptied and now sitting in the shed. 30 litres more or less the lot. Did some research and I think I can use it in my honda jazz (2011).
Just would like to be sure, wouldn't want to ruin my cars engine. Thanks in advance.

Did you run the car with after putting petrol in? Or was it towed home? As long as you have emptied the petrol out, and run the engine, all will be fine when you top up with diesel. Don't run it until you have put the diesel in from a can. I did this years ago and everything was ok.
Sorry should have said "not run the engine" ^^

His car is ok after towing it to a garage and paying for it to be emptied ): Im wondering if it will be ok for the petrol to be put in my car. Hubby thinks as its mixed with some diesel it will damage my cars engine.
If I was in the same position, I would just get rid of it.
You could almost certainly get away with using the reclaimed fuel by filling the fuel tank of your car near to the top with petrol and then adding a small amount of the mixed stuff. Use most of the fuel in the tank and then repeat the process. Repeat again until all the reclaimed stuff has been used up.

A Google search found an American website discussing this.

It suggested that if only about 2 litres of diesel was put in you would get away with it, but beyond that it could cause problems.

If that is true, you could perhaps add a little to almost full tanks for the next few fills to use it up.
As I said earlier, I'd just get rid of it to save all this faffing around and conjecturing. However, that would create another problem: How do dispose of it:)

Many thanks for your replies. I'm going to add a wee bit every time i fill up the tank, probably will take a year to finish the 30 litres :)
Thirty litres, that's a lot, no wonder you want to make use of it. What is the price of gas in the UK?
It's down to just over a pound per litre.
Thanks, Hopkirk. Where I live in Ontario, the price varies throughout the Province, it's the equivalent of 58 pence per litre...Quite a difference.
There is probably not as much tax on your 'gas' as is on ours, sanmac.
Hello, Tony, whatever the taxes are either here or in the UK, that's the price at the pumps.
I saw something earlier ( can't find it now ) about the price of oil has dropped again.

Lol sanmac. The last time I was in Ontario (Queensville . Newmarket) my BIL was paying cents per litre when back here in blighty we were paying pounds. We were taken for a drive one B/H weekend and the moron went to the one attended filling station and filled up and his day was seriously ruined because the old boy who ran the station charged a cent per litre over the top because he worked on a B/L.There was no placating the idiot even when I told hm how much we were rooked off in tax. He just did not believe me. The next time my sister came to visit I gave her the fuel receipt to take back and show him how lucky he was. We both ran identical vehicles. His was a Plymouth Voyager and mine was a Chrysler Voyager and both had the same diesel engine.

We don't just get 'rid of fuel' over here if we can find a use for it. It's literally liquid gold though it must be said that it is cheaper to drink petrol than beer. :-(

Long before diesel fuel had Winter additives to stop it Geling up in winter and screwing the injectors ,London Transport and Haulage companies always added a small proportion of petrol to the diesel tanks of their fleet to make the fuel more viscous.
I saw that petrol near me was under £1 per litre a few weeks ago. It didn’t last long, though. I thought petrol was negatively priced recently.
I’d dilute it more with petrol. Use the petrol diesel mix over the next few fill ups.
Retro, I think you meant less viscous....
Personally I would get rid or use it in the petrol mower.

Just not worth the risk and hassle.
