Sqad; I tripped and fell landing on my chest onto a wooden bedpost last week, pain excruciating! Ambulanced to local hospital, x-rayed and ultra sounded, rib displaced but not broken and "lucky spleen not damaged".
Pain is still very bad and yet I should be driving to France tomorrow and on to England Thursday, but have conceded this morning that it would be stupid, so trying to unbook hotels, tunnel crossing and various appointments.
My question is, from experience how long do you thing I might be in pain before it starts to heal?

I fell out the car (handbag strap caught round my leg) I don't know what I did but it was so painful and took about 5 weeks before I felt better. Good luck, hope it doesn't take too long. I think you're right to cancel your trip as sometimes the pain takes your breath away xx
ouch.....hope you feel better soooooon, probably a week or two ? Ibuprofen and monitor !!
Generally speaking it should improve sometime between 3 - 6 weeks.
I was going to meet Murraymints the day I did it !
I agree you were right to cancel your plans, after fracturing three ribs in a fall it was three weeks before I could clear my throat without squealing out loud.

I hope you feel easier very soon.
How long is a piece of string?
I agree with the majority of posters above.......4-6 weeks.
see..folks are falling over themselves to meet me ! lol xx
I slipped on black ice in the garden in January and landed with my right-side on a stool. It was a month before I dared to cough.

Thanks for info. and sympathy, - 4-6 weeks hmmm. The return ticket for the tunnel - already paid - has been extended to 'open' for the next 8 months, which is good. My main concern now is waiting for a decision on a £1,000 deal with a hotel in the Cotswolds, the terms and conditions of which are, no show still pay, which would be pain on pain.

Since the moment of injury, curious to know why am I belching air all the time, is it something to do with pressure on the lung, does anyone know?
Sorry to hear of your mishap khandro. The pain must be terrible for you. I guess you just have to be patient with this one. Not sure about the belching
You're probably taking short breaths due to the pain. Do you have your mouth slightly open when doing so? You could be swallowing lots of air which is causing belching. Hopefully sqad will be along to reassure you. All the best.

Belching ? No big deal, I agree with the explanation of Patsy33, you are swallowing air rather than inhaling it.
If there is one particular spot that is painful to touch and your travel arrangements are critical, why not see your GP, explain the situation and he may suggest an injection into that spot.
Get a letter from your doctor saying you're unfit to travel . The hotel shouldn't charge you the full amount. You may just lose any deposit.

The hotel has just made the decision that I have to pay the full price as stated. So it's £900 for 11 nights with breakfast for two (and a dog) in a very nice hotel (apart from this!)
Nothing it seems I can do. Could I give it to someone do you think?
If it's on medical grounds that just doesn't seem right Khandro.
Certainly, it is worth providing the medical evidence to the companies you have booked with to show the cancellation is due to a genuine reason and see if they would rescind any charges/penalties.

I don't know the dates of the hotel booking but if there is time they ought to be able to try and re let the accommodation and if they do, then they should make a refund/waive the charge. if you can find someone to take the booking over - let the hotel know a.s.a.p.

Do you have a travel insurance policy to claim any costs back?

Now that you have had loads of sensible answers - what kind of dog do you have?

Did you take out holiday insurance ?

☺☺☺
What happens if I press the button Wolfie?
Toorak - you will blow up the planet, not a great idea but could be fun
Relating to the question, it is unlikely that you will get the hotel costs covered without insurance. Hotels often have cancellation policies that mean that you get a better deal at the time of booking but commit to paying some or all of the costs in the event of cancellation.
