So the lady I work for who pays me £500 a month for pretty much working 7days a week 13 hours a day. (Know I can leave but sticking this out for my 2nd year visa extension)... anyways...

So I made the farmer a tea one morning in his flask for work. It was cold. I thought I boiled the kettle but i didnt and he took it to work cold. Now no excuse i know i messed up but when I'm working 7 days a week full on for 6 weeks straight it's maybe been tiredness and was a general accident. So she comes out with...

It's a really good thing you have a degree...I really think that really helps you in life.

Implying that I am stupid and I'd struggle to get a job if I didn't have a degree on paper. I said nothing. I know their opinions pretty low of me tbh but I bit my tongue tonight.

Well it was a pretty stupid thing to do. Haven't you ever made tea before ? How didn't you notice the water wasn't boiling hot ?
Question Author
Clearly I didn't or I would think have done it. As I said I was really tired.

People make errors. If you weren't so stressed you'd have ignored it totally, and since you didn't say anything back to your boss, outwardly that's what you actually did. Just got to let it be 'water off a duck's back' and not let it get to you. You aren't going to be there forever.

OG I guess you're right. It was an error. For definite. And I know it's silly I'm just a bit tired. I know I'm not stupid as I passed my degree with top marks and this was a silly error. I only have 6 weeks so I need to get on with it. Just got to me so bad.
JUst take it as a light-hearted response to your bloomer; if she'd been really annoyed she'd have fired you.
You could always tell them that you made the error due to tiredness caused by their breaking the law in making you work so many hours..
Question Author
Bhg yeah I suppose if I was that stupid she'd have let me go. Was a silly mistake I know that.

S... then I'd defo get fired. Oh yeh this jobs illegal in many ways...too many hours...works out at £1.50 an hour well below minimum wage and not getting a break is illegal. Also not getting days off...shouldn't work more than 2 weeks. I'm the fool for sticking with it but I need it.
I did the same thing the other day, came down early, started to make instant coffee, cleared a few things away while the kettle "boiled", made the coffee, took a sip half way up the stairs and it was stone cold. Maybe my degree isn't good enough!
why can't you get a different job?
I've done that quite a few times when I've been tired.
Hang on in there.

Irish - my visa runs out in November so if this didn't work I'd be struggling to find another place to work before my 1st year visa runs out. Means I'd not have a 2nd year in Australia.
Modern slavery
My daughter didn't do it and she was in Oz for 2 years.
If someone said that to me I would laugh and agree
Are you on a harvest trail visa?
Question Author
Ummmm- it's a new requirement now.

However I am a bit worried as I've been here for 6 weeks - been paid. But no payslip and no TFN (tax file) forms have been filled out. Hopefully they don't not sign me off. Some people have this happen to them.
Question Author
Aw zebo glad I'm not the only one.
