Just found this in Telegraph Motoring

No. The Stop/Start switch is under the radio (1st switch in the 2nd cluster of controls). The system will only be de-activated for the current ignition cycle.

Can't answer your question, but I can say, the last time I hired a car it had this function, and it's the most annoying thing ever!
