I will be needing two new front tyres shortly - I don't do a huge mileage neither do I take it on the motorway often. Any recomendations please? Thank you.
TWR.. just ignore my posts if they are too boring for you. Anyone else that is interested to discuss the deeper physics and engineering principles will reply.
A lot of people buy a set of tyres & leave the Tec side to the Fitters Sad, you mention the braking & the effect of the front tyres, do you not realise different people put different pressure on the brake pedal?
Never mind the passengers within the car, use new tyres on the back & used on the front, what a load of Bull, you steer the car & more often it's the front of the car that hit's debris on the road, well, you learn something new all the time.
TWR..and some others.Costco are the largest Michelin distributor in the UK and they refuse point blank to fit new tyres to the front and not the rear.I would agree that at first it makes no sense ..however if you study vehicle dynamics in depth it does make sense.Without financial constraints all 4 tyres should have a 4mm minimum tread depth, but we are given a minimum and lots live to it..or beyond. The new poster is spot on with his/her advise.:-)
Bright, as you know most cars are now front wheel drive, in my mind the heaviest part of the car, & I would have thought more pressure on the front tyres, braking, when you apply your Foot Brake the front engages first, am I correct depending on the person applying pressure on the brake pedal, there is no way I would have used tyres on the front & used on the rear, but I like a few on here have been driving before all this Bull st way of driving came out, & by the way! Accident Free.
You are pushing an open door here TWR.However when ALL driving conditions are considered the safest option ..by some margin is to fit new to the rear.Every day is a school day on AB.
Best tyres on the front! - no matter what any website says. With a front wheel drive, that is where you need the traction, the steering, and most power in braking. Not to mention the fact that you will control a rear blowout far better than that of a front one.
No argument, I have spoken! :0)
