I have not noticed these cars much before but three times this week, I have seen them on the M4 in South Wales, driving very slowly along the inside lane. They were three different cars on three different days.

So, I am presuming that the drivers were all trying to conserve power. As these are pure electric cars and not hybrids, can anyone tell me the point of owning one ? I have googled them and they have a range of about 124 miles, which is only about a third to a fourth of the normal range of a diesel or petrol powered car.

Seems daft to me to own a car that you have to drive so slowly, that it takes you ages to get anywhere !

It's not a Hybrid, it's all electric
I know I said hybrids were a better bet than 'all electric'
Still very expensive even with the £5000 subsidy.
I have a 7 seat Zafira eco diesel and get over 60 mpg day to day and 75 to 80 mpg on a long run . I would be surprised if a hybrid can beat that.

Eddie.....The overriding disadvantage that I can see with all-electric cars, apart from the very poor range, is what happens when those batteries needs to be replaced ?

Given the high initial price for the Leaf, if you factor in new batteries, we are looking at a very expensive car indeed. I quite simply cannot see the point in buying one.
Our local police force have got a couple of those Nissan Leaf's !.

Tony...all the thieves have to do, is just keep going, as the cars will run out of juice !
lol, I know mikey. I don't think that they are used as patrol cars I think that they use them when they visit schools and that sort of thing.
Police? Really Tony, are you sure they are not the figment of your imagination? There are cars, marked Police which occasionally shriek past, well above the speed limit, blues and twos going like mad.
Are there real policemen in them? If the electric cars go that slowly they are definitely not here.
Visiting schools? Reading Writing or Arithmetic lessons needed?
I think that they give road safety talks, Daisy.
And trust me you ain't gonna see a Nissan Leaf shriek past with the Blues and two's on the go, they don't have any and I don't think they could be fast enough to shriek anywhere ( I bet there like driving a milk float ).
Ernie?
Found this about depreciation https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/nissan-leaf-depreciation-costs/
A 2 year old low mileage Leaf £30,000 new after the government £5000 subsidy sold for £11,500 the original owner got just £10,000 trade in !

Not my Postcode by the way ^^^

Ernie?

Maybe, Daisy. Don't forget though that Ernie was the fastest milkman in the West.

New ???

Baldric checked out your link, loads of 2 year old Leafs from £9000 to £12,000 so it looks like the price drops like a brick rather than Leaf.
Remember £35,000 new
But if you could pick one up for £9K and run it off solar power as the guy near me does, then as long as you just want a 'town car' it is free motoring
No road tax free fuel just insurance to pay.
I'll bet it's been pre registered.
Daisy Ernie's milk float was horse drawn by 'Trigger' who pulled the fastest milk float in the west.
I guess we'll just have to wait for the flux capacitor to be invented, then we can run cars of garbage!
on garbage!
