Exhausted by Kwik Fit

Don't laugh but I drive a 2 litre 420Si rover (Well I am a family man!). Back in January I had the rear section of the exhaust replaced by Kwik Fit (love them or hate them, until now they have always provided me with an excellent service). Then a few months ago the car started "blowing" again so I returned to be told the front section needed replacing, which again I had done by Kwik Fit. However on collecting the car I was informed that the exhaust was sounding a little "tinny" but after a few weeks once the new section had "coked up" the noise would disappear. Being more than a little surprised (I've never heard this before) I voiced my concern only to be told that this often happens with new exhausts. I was assured that after a few weeks all would be fine but if by some inexplicable chance the noise remained, I was to take the car back and all would be sorted. Having never had a problem with Kwik Fit in the past I cautiously drove home. Needless to say after a few weeks the tinny noise was still there only louder and I returned to KF. This time I was told that due to my low mileage it was taking a little longer to coke up!!! Unfortunately I went back on a day when the manager was on holiday and the greasy spotty youth left in charge didn't have a very good understanding of my foreign language (English), so after 90 minutes I realised my attemps of communicating with this youth was futile and left before I lost my self control and strangled the little weasle. Some weeks later the tinny noise can still be heard and so later this week I will return to KF in the hope that I will stumble across an employee who can speak English and put an end to this problem. I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on the real reason for this tinny noise before I go back.

Thanks

From my past experience of owning a Rover 620 Ti.
I too had the same problem.
However it was nothing to do with the exhaust at all.
It was something in the engine managment called a Lamber Sensor "Dont quote me on the spelling". When you put your foot down it sounds like something blowing staples through a tin pipe just a small rattle.
I thought it was my exhaust, hope your problem is easily fixed like mine.

I have always been satisfied with the level of service from Kwik-Fit, whether it be for brake or exhaust problems or just a simple oil change. But I do agree that some of their fitters are more coscientous than others. Also, I have always received a phone call from their Head Office asking for comments on the level of service received - even for the oil changes ! It seems to me that from what you say they do seem to be trying to sort out the problem even though you  have been unlucky with communications. I,too, have had a tinny noise from new exhausts (not Rover) which have disappeared after a few weeks.  Try another branch ? Good luck.
