So in Asda I was looking what they had. A woman was also looking to buy one. She said her last kettle a Morphy Richards cost her £41 and lasted her for 16 months. This time she wanted a cheapo. She chose one that cost £5 and said It's guaranteed for a year so I'm quids in. Is this sound advice?

I would seem so, Jeza.
Of course.
Yes, I think you mainly pay for looks in kettles these days, they all work/last pretty much the same in my opinion.
Depends on whether you want it to match your kitchen or appliances in your kitchen I suppose, Jeza. However if the kettle for a fiver goes kaput after 12 months it's only cost you a fiver.

So I should buy the £5 one?
Bought one at Morrisons 2years ago, also £5 never had problem, unlike the Designer one which cost over £100 and lasted less than 7 months.
Might as well, over a year it's only going to cost you 1.37 pence a day.

Well it's got 12 months guarantee, Jeza.
when you consider all you need a kettle for is boiling water (a job just as easily done by a billy can over a fire), you soon realise that spending more is a false economy (unless you want super-pretty)
unfortunately, things are not built to last nowadays. I still use the kettle my parents had as a wedding pressie over 40 years ago
I also bought a £5 one from Currys that lasted for ages after a £70 pretty one from Russell Hobbs started to leak and all the paint fell of within 9 months.
Yes, I think so Tony. I bought a £5 one from Morrisons six years ago and it has only just conked out. It ticked all the boxes for us.!

£5 one it is then. Thanks guys.
You did well there, Georgiesmum, less than a pound a year.

I buy the 'value' ones (for round a fiver) from Tesco or Asda and find that they'll typically last me at least 3 years (and more usually around 5 years). So I don't actually buy them that often!
chris, so you buy one roughly between 3--5 years ? :)
Yes. I cant grumble at that can i Tony.
I bought a Wilko buget one, going well
