my car Citreon Picasso automatic has been taken to the garage for repairs all arranged by my insurance co, as it was not my fault and the other party went into the back of me I am entitled to a hire car until mine is repaired, so up pulls a Hyanda 7 seater huge people carrier/bus and they tell me this is my car, what ? I cant drive a car that size I am not confident with huge vehicles, they try and tell me its the same size as my Picasso- oh no its not, pantomime oh yes it is, lady next door came out and started laughing thats when they knew they were not going to convince me! told me its the only car left they have, been on to insurance +car hire and they say it will take 6 hours to locate another car as I am insisting on an automatic. What a to do, they have known since Monday which day my car would be going for repairs.

Believe it or not they are actually easier to drive.
In fairness they wouldn't have known you wouldn't be confident driving that.

sorry but when I spoke to them they told me nothing bigger than what I drive already. It was the width and then length that scared me !
that happened to me back in about 1999, i was given a huge people carrier as i only drive automatics and enterprise had nothing else, but it cost a fortune in petrol! I had it for 2 weeks and it was really expensive to run, it drove ok though and though it was higher off the ground it wasn't bad to park, though i did try to find a reasonably unbusy spot! it was a nissan something.
its probably down to the lack of available automatics rather than them having a laugh at your expense, automatics are still not the popular choice so they are not stocked as such

Avis rang to say they were now going to provide the car could they bring now, is it automatic - yes. which car a 7 seater whatever !!!!! explained politely that I had already turned down similar and my car was 5 seats and I would be happy with something smaller as long as it wasnt a smart car- thay wont like that says Avis- dont care says I - I just dont want a great big car- 4 hours later they delivered a Citreon D3 two door but then asked me for £50 deposit ! I refused saying I did not have cash at home, took another 20 mins of calls before they waived the 50 quid and everyone [hopefully] lived happily ever after, a complete day of hassle.
Bloody auto's, there for gals lol.
