My 'W' Reg Toyota Rav 4 has developed a machine-gun like knocking when steering on full lock & now continues when going forward at low speed. One garage suggests rear differential problem & another universal joint trouble, neither diagosis is very definite & Both are very expensive. What is best course of action?
Does sound like the cv joint has gone. They can make a knocking noise at full lock and stay that 'bad' for years, but if yours is now making that kind of noise when driving straight ahead I'd proceed with caution. I am presuming it is coming from the front of the car and not the rear ??
Does sound like your CV joint, and as mdoo98 says, if noisy when going straight, caution is advised. If it disintegrates whilst moving, it won't be pretty. I had one of mine replaced last month. It's not that an expensive problem to rectify, and if it needs doing, do it.
