If it doesnt rev at all in neutral or gear, its most probably a blocked fuel pipe or filter. If it revs in neutral but not in gear, then it sounds like a gearing problem.

well, where do we start! your bike is a carburettor model kawa so i'd start by assuming you've got dirty carbs as often a fault with carburation will only show up when load is apllied to the engine yet the engine will rev freely whilst in neutral with no load. has your bike been laying up for a while or has anything happened recently that could have caused this problem?? does your bike live outside in the rain or is it garaged?? please give us a bit more info mate. :)

check your lockout switches ( side stand and clutch lever )
From what you're describing, i would suggest that it's like putting the bike into gear with the side stand down.

Any good ?

I used to own a 2001 model and had a problem ,when pulling off the bike wanted to stall like a miss or fuel starvation. It was diagnosed as a faulty K-tric system. This system is an electronic device located on the right -hand side of the engine. The only way to repair this was via a Kawasaki dealer with the correct diagnostic equipment.

I was going to say the same as harley_Husky, might be a problem with the side stand lockout switch.

Does the bike rev when not put in gear, or start with the bike already in gear.
