I got flashed on the M25 today. Hands up ! The variable speed said 40
and I was doing 45 - guilty as charged. The thing that gets me is that
I was in a line of cars all slowing down. The car in front didn't get flashed
and neither did the car behind. Cars in the centre and right lane were
going considerable faster and they didn't get flashed. What did I do to
deserve this :-(

2015 sucks

Are you absolutely sure it was you who was flashed? If a car in another lane was travelling faster than you it could well be that it was flashed; you would still be aware of the flash in your car.
Are you sure it wasn't the cars in the centre and right hand lane that were 'flashed'? What makes you think it was you?
You'd be extremely unlucky to get done doing 45 in a 40 although I'll now get told it's not unlucky at all.
Wait and see. Whilst they could set it to flash any speed over 40, +5 seems unlikely to me. They'd be flashing at almost every vehicle.
Lucky you.....doing 45mph on the M25.

maybe I was getting excited - it took 4 1/2 hours to do 85 miles
You must have been with me - it took me 3+ hours to get back from Essex to SW London today. Thank God I got off at J9 as the M25 was rammed from J10 to J14. That is par for the course though.
Were you going the wrong way? M25 is only a tad under 117 miles!
it's not unlucky at all to get done doing 45 in a 40!
Question Author
that was 85 miles door to door
Very low tolerance for breaking the speed limit through roadworks.
3 mph over and there is a chance of some points and a fine.
Question Author
no roadworks , no accidents. The overheads went 60, 50 , 40, and back to
national speed limit in 4 consecutive overheads.
Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait and see :-(
I think you'll be ok.
I can always rely on you Talbot x
"Very low tolerance for breaking the speed limit through roadworks.

Not quite so. The "tolerance" level for speeding is 10%+2mph, so 46mph in a 40 limit. Travel at 46.1mph and you can expect action to be taken. Up to 10%+9mph (so up to 53mph in a 40 limit) you should be offered a "Speed Awareness Course" instead of a fine and points. You are eligible for this if you have not done one in the previous three years.

If you were travelling at 45mph you should hear nothing but if action is to be taken the Registered Keeper of the car should receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution (a "NIP") within 14 days.
Plus, it doesn't actually matter if other drivers were speeding - if plod decides you among a crowd of others will be speed checked, or pulled over and breathalysed, or advised about something, then they can.
It's not unknown for the strobes to discharge randomly but the camera isn't triggered.
Repent and mend your ways! :-)
yeah getting flashed sucks ....

I havent had a very good 2015 either
Is there a tolerance level these days? I was on a speed awareness course and the first thing the instructor asked everybody was what speed they were doing when caught. Mine was 44 in a 40 mph limit area ( under the 10%+2) and a young man ( who had his documents to prove it) was there for doing 31 in a 30 mph area.
simple ..money for old rope!
