I'm no expert but £200 sounds a bit stiff. I've had mates who've picked up a refurbished one from a scrapyard for £15 and fitted it themselves.
Might be worth canvassing the opinion of tonyav and other posters on here who are knowledgable about cars.

your probably right but need it done as i need it for work tomorrow chill
Doesn't sound that outrageous

Depending on the car I'd expect a starter motor to be around the £100 mark maybe half an hour fitting (again very much depending on the car)

I'm not sure I'd want to go with a scrapyard starter myself unless I knew it came from quite a new car - don't want to do the job twice

Yes, guessed that might be your predicament.

As the saying goes: if it's got t*ts or wheels, it's gonna cause you trouble!

just had call £155 new and fitted starter motor happy with that!
Better than £200, plus it'll be £145 with your 'find' so coulda been worse!
My pc packed up yesterday and it looks like I'm going to have to get a new one! Don't know what to get and how much I need to spend. I just hope I can get my photos and stuff off the hard drive.
Don't you back up on an external drive tigger?
I'm very pc illiterate Chill so I don't know what I've got and what I haven't. My brother is an computer engineer and he'll be round tonight to check everything out and tell me whats what.

Have you got the car manual wallet Bernie? I had a similar problem last year when when my battery packed up and had to get it sorted out. I found the code in the manual wallet.
bernie, can you take the radio out of the dash, you may find that someone may have written the code on the radio. It's a pity that you didn't have more time to shop around for a new / used starter motor though.
