which oil should a 1995 mx5 take the parts shop where i brought the oil from has sold me 5W30 S/S should it not be a thicker oil for an older engine, I realise their system tells them which oil and parts etc for which vehicle but I also know from experience they dont always get it right.

1995? If I've read Wikipedia correctly (and if Wikipedia is actually correct anyway!), that appears to be a Mark 1 model.

According to this website, which specialises in MX5 parts and accessories, the oil should be 0W-40:

My own policy, with oil for older cars, is to look for whatever's cheapest in Asda and to chuck that in!

thanks guys, thanks for the links, halfords is saying to use the same type of oil as the parts shop sold me so hopefully should be ok, and LOL mjwman
