My sportrak has always started fine - until today that is. Now although the engine turnsover fine, it will only fire a tiny bit, followed by more turnover with no more firing at all. If I leave for a while, and then just turn the key quickly (i.e. for a short burst) it will almost fire up.
Spark plugs are sparking.
keep thinking it's a fuel problem. But can't work out why it would not work now as it was working fine yesterday.
New Battery 2 week ago.
any ideas welcome.

Could be cambelt! Hope it isn't as it's expensive.
Question Author
nope not Cam all turning over and running correctly.
cams normally go when the car is running and it would make a god awful noise.
Plus changing cambelt is not a problem as i will change myself, thanks for your post
1)Try getting someone to start it up, whilst you look to see if there's any 'arcing' under the bonnet. If so, clean and waterproof the leads with quick spray of WD40.

2)Earth connections good on both battery to body and body to engine?

3) refuelled lately, hopefully with the right type petrol/diesel?

4) fuel pump ok? fuel filter ok?
Question Author
will try all tomorrow.
checked Fuel, first option i did,
earthing might be one idea as i was changing the battery and this might have disturbed something.
fuel pump and filter are the last options Back fuel pump ant easy to get too.

But thank you for the ideas
