the other day i was turning onto a bypass were the national speed limit so i started to put my foot down ..howwver the car just stayed at the 40, and felt like it was 'holding back'..the pedal was on the floor...it just felt odd to drive...i started to remove my foot and eventually it felt like it sort of 'caught up' a bit

did i just put my foot down too quickly or somehting? ( i used to drive a car that if i did that it just shot off...im still getting used to the new one...and this one obviosuly doesnt do that)

its a vw passat tiptronic tdi, automatic diesel

cheers

Sounds as though the turbo is faulty
Have the same trouble its a new VW Engine and Turbo They tell me its the way I drive it from cold I have to go 400 yds to the main road and the turbo's have a flat spot until they get up to speed and warm ,by the way its a golf tdi
Don't know if what they are telling me is true but I never have this trouble when the car is warm

It could be a flat spot on your carburettor, or maybe your accelerator cable is sticking - either of those will give the symptoms you describe.
A carburettor? .. on a TDi Turbo-Diesel? .. Yep .. right.
Excuse me - I know nothing about cars - as you have sumised - I was merely trying to be helpful.
