failed thermostat or fan not working..

vauxhall astra merit ,1997 reg,, yesterday car overheated as fan did not come on, has anyone got ant ideas on how to change the thermostat or could it be something else causing the fan not to work? thankyou

try this

on the radiator there is a little plug with 2 wires coming off, pull the 2 wires off, then put them together (with the ignition on, not the engine running!) the cooling fan on the back of the radiator should spin.

if it does, the plug you pulled the wires out from needs replacing (its a little thermostat)
If it does not spin, check there is electricity going to it, if there is then the fan will need replacing.
