why is there so much black smoke comin out of the exhaust? do i possibly need a new filter? i changed the plugs 2 days ago!

I had same problem with my ford focus 1.8 tdi changed the air fillter and gave it a good run on the motorway and it was alright after that try the air fillter and give it a good run blow the cob web out of the engine ,then rev the engine when its stationery try it .
