I have got my request for the free up-grade to Windows 10 both on my own laptop as well as my wifes so no problem there. But.... I have a small Netbook which I use when travelling ( running "7" ). All updated are up to date but I am unable to register for Windows 10 nor can I get the App. My Windows 7 is a genuine program. Any help will be much appreciated. Tel

I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to upgrade to Windows 10 they are having lots of issues and I would wait a few months until it is sorted out before you consider your upgrade. Leave Windows 7 on your netbook don't even bother to upgrade to Windows 10.

I'm in the same boat, so I'll be interested to see if anyone can help.
if as you say your non Win 10 updates are up to date - and you`ve backed up all your stuff including favourites / bookmarks.
Delete everything in windows/softwaredistribution/download
Then open a command prompt by right clicking on it and select administrator
hit enter and in the window that comes up type wuauclt.exe/updatenow and the Win 10 should start downloading.

Hi ukbod2015, You are obviously a very able technical person. unfortunately, I am not. Would you be able to give me a "step by step" guidance through your info already posted. Thanks in advance. Tel
I have read somewhere that free upgrade is only from win 8 and 8.1
Minty. the upgrade is also from Windows 7.
I'm on Windows 7 and I have a message saying get prepared for windows 10.
ah...good..just remember reading that somewhere..I am holding on to download for a bit..
I am probably talking nonsense, I am not technical, I am now running Windows 10 and I think it is very good but it is a big download. Would it be that your small notebook is too small and doesn't have enough space/memory for 10 or is it just a registration problem you are encountering.
Ok - lets try this first to see if we can get you registered

Thanks to you all for advice. It would seem that furrypusscat may be correct regarding 10 being toooo big for my little Asus travel netbook. Microsoft state the the minimum processor speed should be 1 Ghz and as my little friend is only 900Mhz this would seem to be the most likely reason. Tel
how big is your hard disk - you`d need about 6gb to get through the install and my windows directory is reading 25gb but I dont believe that.
