x factor sob story

while i feel for the guy who lost his wife this show is about talent (believe it or not) its not fair on other contestants that dont give or as i suspect dont get theirs aired after the editing has done its job ,lets have all sob stories ,god forbid or none at all, the guy in question no doubt if he gets to the final will get more sympathy votes than someone who could be a more deserved winner

deggers316 this is something I have always said. There should be no personal revelations allowed as human nature sways judges and viewers when there is a sad background.

I used to love the x factor until i realised what a huge set up it is. I know someone who went in for it who is a brilliant singer, great personality etc and they got through 3 rounds of auditions with the x factor producers and then never got through to the "first" auditions with Simon and co. Probably because he has a good family, well paid job etc. Now it really annoys me when I watch it. There was a guy on a couple weeks ago who was apparently fostered and he just wanted to make his real parents proud blah blah blah he shed a tear and voila, he straight through with all the judges saying how excellent he was, best audition of the day bullsh*t.

Anyone who comes on with a sob story should be instantly booted off.

Sort of agree, but I'm sad to say i'm a sucker for the sob stories on there.

I was filling up when the guy who lost his wife started singing, and when Cheryl cried, im ashamed to say I cried along with her.

And yes, I'm aware of how pathetic I sound!

I cried too BOO. but only because she did.
If I see anyone cry, it starts me off.....I go to pieces at weddings and funerals...

God Sachs, I cried like a baby!

Anything remotely weepy and the floodgates open, it's getting embarrassing! Remember the SMA milk advert where the guy did a poem to his "lovely, lovely missus"- the damn thing got me everytime :-(

But anyhoo- back to the topic- whilst I agree that the sob stories shouldn't have a bearing whether someone gets through to the next round, I think they should be kept in, it makes the programme more 'human'.

And a tear in my eye! I really don't think they would have put him through had he been rubbish! He got through cause he earned it!

heck i cry when things are sad like that...............but then i get a big lump in my throat and have tears of joy welling up when someone gets through and then they go and surprise their school mates/prison officer work colleagues.

When they get to the part where they have picked the final 3 and they go back and tell their families.................i am totally choked

It's a fair point, but never forget that this is not really a 'talent show', it is first and foremost a TV show, and that is an important difference.

If it was simply an audition, 75% of the contestants wouldn;t get to sing because they don't look right - no fatties, no geeks, no oddballs would ever get heard, they would walk in, be looked at, and walk out - because that is how auditions work.

The UK adores the X-Factor winner - how couldn;t they, that person is in their living room at prime-time for about three montsh - it is afterwards when reality sets in.

That is why the McManus's and Waller's and Brooksteins of this world don;t hack it, and the Leona's and Girls Aloud's do.

The public don't want fat and / or geeky with a sad life, they want gorgeous with killer songs - it's as simple as that.
