There is a massive increase in RNLI appeals for donations on television of late.
Many subscriptions cancelled.
Any connections to the many illegal floating boaters collected from the French naval escorts?

I knew many of the RNLI brigade and their opulence was immense. I'd give the actual rescuers a donation all day long but like a lot of big chirridee I would not trust them as far as I could throw them.
In the days I first started supporting the RNLI their main work was rescuing mariners who were in distress through no fault of their own, merchant ship's crew, local fishermen, etc.
Nowadays most of the time they are rescuing rich Yotties who run out of fuel or come a cropper as a result of some other lack of voyage preparation - no way will I support this. IMHO they should have to pay full costs of the rescue including an hourly charge for RNLI crews. Such callouts would then drop dramatically I'm sure.
Can you imagine the likes of the AA or RAC being supported by charitable contributions ?
Go woke go broke. The new and exciting managers spend £thousands on diversity and inclusivity programmes and insist on recruitment favouring the alphabet wannabees. Plus the news that Les Grenouilles are going to deploy drones to patrol their beaches to detect escaping boaties, thereby enabling the RNLI rescue teams to assemble more eagerly, means that they need more dosh to pay for the extra fuel and manpower( is that allowed now?). No more donations from me after gladly giving for decades.
I saw that about the Muslim women and swimming too, Naomi, and that made me rethink my donations. Now I expect a lot of people have decided to check just what their money is spent on. When the local RNLI is trudging around with a bucket getting donations for a new 'whatever' then I'm happy to chip in.
The the likes of the AA or RAC are not registered charities.
It's comparable to looking down on the NHS because they treat citizens and private practices want to be paid,
But yes, if the nation wants to save illegals it ought not be expecting volunteers to do the job. It's most likely the RN's task to return them safely south.
