Very good start. Quite intriguing and looks promising. This is series 6 and i certainly don't remember the 'Beeb' showing any of the first 5? Does anyone else?
I remember one crabby ABer taking me to task that the proper English for Enrenages wasnt spiral - but clockwork mechanism
and then he said gregory fitoussi had nothing to do with either meaning. -
maitre Czerny gets shot in one series ( you may ask - who is Me Czerny and the answer is - it doesnt matter, he is dead) -And the judge's mistress's son gets blackmailed in another and he commits suicide, sort on the jduge's watch. Muhdarm is NOT pleased
To answer my own question; apparently all previous series have been shown on BBC 4 (some part funded by the Beeb); 1st was aired in 2006, then 2009, 2011, 2013 and series 5 in 2015. I note that this series is a joint enterprise between Canal TV and the BBC.
The characters have er filled out a bit over the years ( a bit like Montalbano who went from looking like a young Sean Connery to a hairy Mr Blobby floating in the med )
Gilou has been bottling the van rooj but is still shacked up with the jailbird mill
and the girl - I would have thought - had kissed enough men to staff an orphanage rather than one cot on an NICU
Great for REAL french like
' I think the ponce has chopped up the prazzy."
which we never go in Francais Vivant ( 1960-64)
Our rather dim French master never brought in anything on Algeria - "Je vous ai compris" de Gaulle etc - or les plastiqueurs de l'OAS
even tho his bloodthirsty pupils were aware of it and might have been motivated to learn their vocabs
Helly, if you mean what Gilou found in the top of the punchbag, it wasn't a tin, it was a small gold ingot.
Agree, this is really well done, and the directing is brilliant: seamless and I'm not thinking about where the camera is etc etc
Am I alone in thinking Laure is rather, er, jolie?
Forgot to say that Gilou kept the ingot because he and his girlfriend need the money for the new flat, and he doesn't want her to take money from her ex.
