I could not give a rats plaster about Sunday trading laws but we should not be having the Scottish sabotaging the UK legislature so Jimmy Krankie can stick two digits up at England. Beware SNP, this will not go unpunished:

Didn't you join in the other thread on this story, TTT?
A defeat for the government, sure, but more importantly: a defeat for Tesco.
All these people standing up for shop workers who may actually want a few more hours work. Why doesnt USDAW ballot its members to see if they want Sunday trading. If they do then the politicians can keep their nose out. If they dont then its worth fighting for.
This has been fully discussed on the other thread TTT !

Dave was defeated on this issue because he couldn't persuade enough of his own MPs to vote for it. The opposition's job is to hold the Government to account and to oppose legislation that it doesn't think is appropriate. That is what happened with this issue.

As well as not persuading his own MPs to back him, he also couldn't persuade enough voters north of the Border to vote Tory last May !
As been mentioned elsewhere, oppositions tend to oppose, so the reslut was really down to Tory rebels. But for sure since (I assume) the change in the Scottish law to allow a full day's Sunday trading was passed without recourse to what the rest of the UK thought, then I can not see how it can be justified that Scottish MPs vote on what is the mirror image of that; in that it affects just England & Wales. This is the problem when adding a further unnecessary level of government and not providing all countries with it, and even worse not defining properly the same rules for all.

can't see another thread.
OG....successive Government of different hues have shone no willingness to
tackle the West Lothian question, and this is just another example.

CAC: "All these people standing up for shop workers who may actually want a few more hours work. Why doesnt USDAW ballot its members to see if they want Sunday trading. If they do then the politicians can keep their nose out. If they dont then its worth fighting for. " - this is nothing to do with Sunday trading, F/F/S the scottish have this already, this is about Jimmy Krankie and rest of the SW2 disrupting the UK because they can.
Indeed, but the West Lothian question is really what all three threads on this issue here is about. The actual rejection of the proposal being secondary; the vehicle which highlighted the actual problem. Discussed simply because were the Scottish MPs barred form voting on it then the result would have been different.
OG..........then I am sure that now Dave has a working majority, he will formulate legislation to deal with the Question, won't he !

After all, he has to wait 4 years before he has another opportunity to persuade the Scots to vote Tory again, like they used to years ago.

That was speculation before the vote mikey, this is after.
Such optimism :-)

Mikey, //he has to wait 4 years before he has another opportunity to persuade the Scots to vote Tory again, like they used to years ago. //

You have absolutely nothing to crow about. They used to vote Labour too years ago - or have you forgotten?
Not withstanding a slimy Sturgeon and Salmon, the English and Welsh have steam-rollered the Scots enough times in the House......so my view is that Cameron should move on.

Anyway, it's all about preening of political peacock feathers ahead of possible action north of Hadrian's wall post June.

In short, DC, build the case for staying in and let Gove, Johnson and Farage implode, which they are more than capable of doing so....wit the Sun story. Stick to the facts and avoid sinking into the sledging mud - the nays will do that and leave it to them - some genuine leadership and rising above the boggy marsh called the H of P is called for.
TTT - in 1983, the Tories held 21 HoP seats in Scotland - oh, how the memory fails.
// Didn't you join in the other thread on this story, TTT?//

well yes but he knows we need his pensees on the subject

and schweik came out with "I support the issue" that time so this fred he will say: " I dont support the issue and never did"

AND SO we could helpt them by copying and pasting the first 100 answers from last time .... ( mama's suggestion not mine - I have no ideas of my own _)
"" this will not go unpunished"". Oh Ah !!!!!!
// TTT - in 1983, the Tories held 21 HoP seats in Scotland - oh, how the memory fails.//

[ sorry bit of a tenuous link of logic there )
