Got into a conversation with a wee girl who is new - I asked her what job she was in before - worked as a receptionist in a doctor's surgery - that would have been my dream job but couldn't do it with the hearing problem you know answering phones and medication.

I said why did you not like it - she said the foreigners were an absolutely a nightmare - demanding this and that and take it out on the receptionists and doctors alike. Also the drug and drink issue "if you don't give me my effing tablets I am going to hang myself. But she said the worse of the patients were Indian men - they were asking things that referred to maybe pharmaceutical companies. Now I was never racist but I think I am changing my mind. No wonder the doctors are leaving - who could cope with that strain. God bless them.

Stressful job indeed, I admire those who do it.

how long are we going to have them for - I couldn't never be cheeky with them as most of them are so pleasant
When any job involves dealing with the public, you treat each one with the best courtesy and politeness you can.

Each workplace should have guidelines for what to do if a customer/patient etc becomes abusive.
I won't be drawn on the matter of race - there can be awkward cusses from all walks and nationalities.
Question Author
well you know I think that if patients no matter what race they are - cheeky - out the funk you go. last night watched a repeat of a Romanian man who has made £10,000 in the UK in 10 months - now he is bringing baby back to register him on the NHs so baby is entitled to everything - deffo the worst thing opening all those countries to EU. Dreadful - nothing in the pot for us who have worked for 50 years maybe more.
Patients are removed from Doctors lists regularly for abusing both the staff and the system.

Quite right too.
Question Author
I think these or this area are afraid of the patients - I really do - think they would need security guards on - so sad re this NHS being so badly abused.
Sorry to read how bad it is in your area, they do need to get a grip on things if staff are afraid.
last time i went to the docs - i sat in a waiting room with a couple of people, we all had a nice chat, few people came in, talked to the receptionists and went on their way (no drama witnessed) nurse saw a few people, then i went in, saw the doc and left.

admittedly this was roughly year ago and i have an appointment tomorrow, i shall report back on the utter carnage i expect to see......

not my area mamy - but maybe in other surgeries in my area but definitely not my surgery
Take you tin hat Fluff.

Glad your surgery is OK Conne.

So is mine.

you do have to wait 4-5 weeks on an appointment - but they would give you an emergency appointment if necessary. so I just waited but like that - when that pain is excruciatring 4-5weeks ago it eases up when you are going to the doctors so you feel foolish indeed altho I did have a wee twinge so I know she could see something.
When I approach the reception they usually look up and say "Oh, hello Wolf. Waiting area 2" and I sit there for ages watching the fish in the tank. Then my doctor bellows from about two miles down the road "Wolf". He asks me how my cats are doing.

I think that most of the practice doctors are foreign - they are mostly Irish.

I will admit that the customer service at the doctor's surgery and the vet are excellent. I think that the customer/patient's attitude is crucial too. If you are nice to the receptionists then they will be nice back.

I hate working with the public in what is usually a confrontation situation. Alas that was part of my job when I was working - but I have my pension and am keeping it. Civil Service pension at 40 years old. They really wanted rid of me :-)

"....They were asking things that referred to maybe pharmaceutical companies...."

Explain - What things?

Question Author
tambo the wee girl just mentioned that other companies were involved - must say the wee girl looked mithered when talking about it so I left it alone. I am sorry but my attitude has changed and I am very sad about it.
Most confusing - maybe she meant Medical Reps?

Still she is now out of a job she didn't like or care for.
If you dont know what indian men ask for, why do you feel racist? Am curious at their special requests. Sorry to labour the point.
You are revising your opinion of 'Indian Men' based on the second-hand tales of a wee girl who failed to get across just what her problems with them were?

How odd...
Question Author
well as mamy said I am not going into the wherefores of race - sorry.
But this post is about foreigners!
