I'd guess it's to do with your broadband speed
are you choosing the HD version? They are larger files and take longer to download.
If you're talking about iPlayer then I don't think it has much to do with file size or speed, download speed from the BBC is much less than than the 50Mb that my connection regularly tests at, I assume that the pinch point is at the BBC's servers, I'd guess that they give priority to those streaming rather than downloading. That said, I haven't noticed any better speeds when downloading at 6am when I would expect relatively few to be using the service.

woofgang, yes i do download in hd, i will try it in ordinary, thanks
very uneven

the prog for download is MEANT to download a watchable proportion - say 10 mins and then do the rest as you are watvhing the first bit

good idea but sometimes doesnt work like that
I am on Sky and I use it a lot, it is ready to watch in about 3/4 minutes, not in HD.
Question Author
certainly isnt 3/4 minutes. it used to download part so you could watch and then carry on downloading whilst you were watching but not anymore
Question Author
i can watch programmes on the ipad but not on tv!
I said ready to watch, not the full download.
gina that's what makes me think its because you are choosing HD
Once took 36 hours to download a 1.5 hour programme but that's Norfolk for you! It's been much better recently, someone's put a couple of pounds into the meter I think.
