Congratulations.
A lot of people thought this was going to be a lot closer, the Tories in fact have a 7000+ majority.

The Conservatives despite previously having a 16,000 majority were spooked enough to draft in 1000 party activists to work the constituency this week.

I have been predicting that UKiP will only win one or two parliamentary seats at the General Election, but will come second in a lot of constituencies. Last nights result seems to confirm that.
You forgot to use the word Ghastly and bang on about how good labour did !
Pathetic? No.

Meaningless? No.

Second? Yes.
// just thought I'd get the headline in before mikey claims it //

Mikey's not interested in election results, just polls.

Hopkirk,
I fear you may be missing the point of my (very much) t-i-c post! LOL
I fear so
One party's 'pathetic second' is another party's 'strong message from the electorate that we get, loud and clear'.

In the end it's all lies from incompetents.
Well I think the header is pretty much how mikey the spider would have reported a reduction of 4.89% in labour support.
The Tories win its first by-election in 25 years...quite an achievement, although as the seat had a 16,000+ majority, it was hardly unexpected.
Credit to UKIP for result coming second, but its now obvious why Farage didn't stand in Newark. Never mind, he and Roger Helmer have the Brussels gravy train to fall back on.
You caught me out, CD!
// The Tories win its first by-election in 25 years //

The Conservatives gained Crewe and Nantwich from Labour 5 years ago.
lol, were you ever right about anything, mikey,? ;-)
Bye elections represent a seat in the House of commons, far from meaningless, the money's not bad and you can double it on the exes!
It amazes me that anyone should be so foolish as to vote for that posturing clown Farage.
It's that arrogant, hollier than thou superiour attutude that creates the conditions for millions to do exactly that. That's why your boys took a beating in the Euro elections.
"It amazes me that anyone should be so foolish as to vote for that posturing clown Farage."

It would particularly amazing, astonishing even, since he wasn't standing!
